Bandipur Village Tour

A uniquely designed traditional architect  houses, the culture of Newar society is  interesting. A few days of tour to Bandipur village would be a worthy decision. some interesting activities  in Bandipur are the Raniwan jungle hike, Siddha (cave) gufa visit, looking the great scene of Marsyangdi river valley from the tundikhel (big ground behind Bandipur), tindhara , thani mai temple and many more. Because of its preserved, old time cultural atmosphere, Bandipur has increasingly been coming to the attention of tourism. It is located at an elevation of 1030m on a mountain saddle approximately  700m above the marsyandi  river valley, and 143 km weast of Kathmandu and 80 km west of Pokhara. In the year 1998 Bandipur is connected by a 9 km access road from Dumre which, is on the prithvi high-way to Pokhara. Until then there was only an unreliable road, in monsoon it usually almost impossible to drive.
Bandipur is huge cultural and traditionally developed village of Newar communities. It was fast and nicely developed after it had been conquered in 1768 by Prithvi Narayan Shah for trading of Newar traders to Bhaktapur. Originally Bandipur is a simple Magar village in the early 19th century. Bandipur developed into prosperous trading centre and community with town-link features, substantial buildings, with their neoclassical facades and shutters windows and nicely paved sliver stone slate.  Bandipur had its heyday in the Rana times (1846- 1951) when as a measure of its power and prestige , it was granted special permission to have its own library.
Former a magar village, Bandipur today is settled by a variety of Nepali ethnicity. The Bahuns, the Chhetris, Newar, Magar, Gurung  Damais, Kamis, and sarkis are some to me named of the cast of community in Bandipur village. It’s medium elevation, excellent view of the Himalayas ( Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and langtang Himal   as well the marsyandi river valley, manakamana  and Gorkha with its high perching places relatively easy accessibility and of course, old Newar town flair, makes Bandipur an interesting tourist site.

How To Get Bandipur (Itinerary of Bandipur)
Driving 143 km in tourist deluxe bus until Dumre, is on the Prithvi High-way to Pokhara and taking a cab to Bandipur an easy 9 km driving road, or there is another option too, which is having a private car from Kathmandu. But some one who seek for budget tour, having tourist bus from Kathmandu and cab from Dumre to Bandipur is nice idea.  Most Hotels are in Bandipur cultural designed of Newar architecture. The clean and quiet atmosphere feels pretty unique. The  varieties of different cuisine and the delicious tasty meals in the uniquely  designed cosy restaurants are another  part of  fun.
