Janakpur  is the headquarters of Dhanusa District in Nepal.  One of the most Hindu religious city as the Ram Janaki temple is located.  So it’s a Centre of religious and cultural tourism. Thousands of Hindu devotees visit of this place as they keep faith in the religion and believe in God. This city is also known as Janakpurdham. Janakpur city was founded in the early 18th century. The oral tradition in the local communities believe that this is  an earlier city that had  existed in the area,  and this city, Janakpurdham,  was the capital of the Videha dynasty that ruled Mithila region in the ancient times. Janakpur city lies about 123 km (76 mi) south-east of Nepal . The estimated population of this city in 2015,was around 173,924 making  the largest Sub-Metropolitan city of Nepal. Janakpur is seventh largest city of Nepal. It is the third largest city in the Terai after Biratnagar and Birgunj.

History
The written history of ascetics and pundits indicate that Janakpurdham was founded in the early 18th century. It describes Janakpurdham as a hugely believable pilgrimage site of Nepal dates to 1805. The archaeological evidence of the presence of an ancient city has not been found. The King Janaka’s palace is thought to have been located in ancient Janakpur as it is thought to be capital of the Kingdom of the Videhas. According to the Hindu Epic Ramayana, he found a baby girl in a furrow, named her Sita and raised her as his daughter. And day after day Sita gets  older and  she is older enough for marry. so, her Father King janak offers her  marriage to anyone who is  able to lift the bow of Shiva. But admirer tried to lift, no one can but Rama (prince of Ayodhya, the older son of king dasharath of the same time) could lift. So, sita will marry with prince Ram. Janakpur was farm land with few small villages then Later Janakpur expanded to a commercial Centre and became the capital of the Dhanusa District in the 1960s. As Asmit and Sita are major figures in Hinduism, Janakpur is an important pilgrimage site of Hindus.

Festivals
Religiously celebrated Hindu festivals  are Vivaha Panchami, Dipawali, and Vijayadashami, and Chhath Puja, as well  this chhath puja is celebrate just less than a week  of Dipawali and Makar Sankranti also a hugely celebrated festival in the janakpur. People have a big carnival in the Vijayadashami, Vivah Panchami and Chhath Pooja as they celebrate these festival as a major festival. The festival Ram nawami also drags the thousands of followers and visitors during this festival in Mach/April.

How to get in Janakpur 
It is easy to travel to Janakpur choosing to go by flight or by bus. If want to go by flight, we fly from Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) to Janakpur Domestic Airport. And by bus also we take bus from kathmandu new buspark and directly  get in Janakpur. it is about 10 hours to 12 hours drive.
